The Supplement Series, Pt 1

Not all supplements are created equal. Despite offering a vital form of care to support or adjust our internal system’s needs, supplements have struggled with few standards required by the FDA, thus offering loads of brands the opportunity to make their products filled with more fillers than the beneficial compounds they boast.

While we utilize care, from Chiropractic Adjustments, to Detoxing, to lifestyle exploration in Functional Medicine, to learn what the body needs, it’s our daily lifestyle and consistent care we give to ourselves that is vital to create long-lasting changes in our health.

Like it’s important to purchase from brands that place honesty at the center of their products, offering clean and well-sourced ingredients, it’s also important to work with experts who know how supplements support your body, how they work together, and how your body’s needs can be uniquely reacts to their effects.

Looking to learn what supplements your body could best benefit from? Meet the experts below and some of their favorite items to refer to folks they work with. (Of course, note the caveat that while these educators enjoy recommending these supplements, it doesn’t mean that they will work best for you. We always encourage you booking an appointment with these leading experts, based on your needs and what you’re looking to accomplish with your health, so they can offer a more pointed perspective):

Dr Danielle Bailey, of 360 Health & Wellness: Dr Danielle brings a well-rounded perspective to supplement education, when it comes to her work as a Functional Medicine Specialist. Her own training has brought a welcomed relief to those struggling to understand the challenges going on in their bodies. Supplements for those she sees are utilized to discover the deficiencies their bodies are craving, and bring balance back to struggling systems.

Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Jana Spillers of Bishop Babies & Wonderfully Made Wellness Sanctuary: With her specialties in lactation and babies from birth to two years, offers a holistic approach for growing littles in need of extra support as their bodies develop. Jana pairs her passion for non-toxic lifestyles with her modern medicine education, acutely aware and committed to providing natural additions or alternatives for parents looking natural options. Her practice centers on parent empowerment and education. Jana’s focus is on wellness through optimized overall health and nutrition. When illness arises, her first line is always holistic plant based treatment.

Supplement suggestion: Vitamin D: Most Americans are vitamin D deficient. This doesn’t just lead to poor bone density. Vitamin D plays a crucial role in the immune system and is linked to lower incidence of viral upper respiratory illness and decreased severity and duration of illness. Thorne D/K2 is our brand of choice for quality and ease of access.

Dr Lexi Meleski: Like Chiropractic Care offers a look at the leading systems that define your body’s alignment, Dr Lexi Meleski believes in the importance of being well-versed in supplemental education in order to offer well-rounded, nonintrusive and natural care for those struggling to advance their health. Like all health, Dr Lexi knows that daily habits define your lifestyle and that every ingredient you put into your body has a long-lasting effect on your longevity. Just like your diet needs to be stocked with clean, non-inflammatory inducing foods, supplements should be equally revered with such care and properly paired with your body’s unique needs to ascertain the balance you’re looking for. Dr Lexi leads in educating those that come into OWC on the importance of well-trusted brands that are committed to those they create for — offering affordable supplements to make healthy lifestyles manageable for those needing to further their consistent care between adjustments.

Supplement Suggestion: Magnesium — It’s the first to be burned off in stress, and is essential to help our bodies better be able to respond to our stresses. And Omegas— most people are deficient and quality is everything, most can be rancid, so making sure you have recently packaged Omegas from honest companies is key. Omegas help balance hormones, heal skin, and boost immunity.

All of our providers who specialize in Supplement Education share the belief in only sharing and selling clean brands. Dr Lexi advises to stay away from marketing ploys like those you see on shelves such as Nature’s Way, and focus more on brands such as Trace Minerals & Thorne.

Rachel Riley, of The Canary Community: With our exposure to hundreds of chemicals a day, it’s no wonder we need to be spending more and more time detoxing from all of the junk that’s getting stuck inside of us. Rachel Riley and her team at The Canary Community offer some of the most unique and vital services in DFW, with a multitude of ways to help us detox all the way down to a cellular level. Services like Ozone Therapy, IVs, and Ion Foot Bathes, are acutely paired with supplements she sells that further detoxification.

Supplement Suggestion: GI Detox — This Charcoal & Aloe Vera combination is used after detoxifications to further support the binding of toxins being stirred up in the body and helping them come out in our poop and pee.

We’ll be back next week interviewing our providers on more Supplement Education! For those with specific questions, comment on our post about Supplement Education on Instagram or Facebook.
